"We regret to inform our fans that we will not be participating in this year's Warped tour," the band said in a post "We have been going nonstop for the past six months and didn't realize how much the intense schedule would take out of us. Something had to give, and sadly it's this tour."

The band had been scheduled to perform 17 Warped shows between July 9 and August 2.

The dropout comes only weeks after, in an interview with Pitchfork, singer Jemina Pearl openly criticized the Warped Tour and its attendees. "I just associate it with a certain look and a certain style and the kind of kids at school that I thought were — this is really bad, I'm sure — the kind of kids that were dumbasses wearing Rancid T-shirts who thought they knew what punk-rock was and threw things at people in the cafeteria," she said. "So it's like, 'OK, now we're going to be performing for these people.' Our label [Ecstatic Peace] is under the impression that we're going to play one date and then automatically sell 100,000 more records."

When she was asked to elaborate, Pearl insisted, "All those bands [on the Warped Tour] have this very specific look and sound and style. It's like the new hair metal or something. There are like 10 different rules about how you write a song, and what everything sounds like and looks like. I'd like to imagine that we're very much the opposite of that. It'll be interesting for us to go in there and just try to put on a really awesome live show, maybe turn some people on to our music that wouldn't have listened to us or liked us before."

Be Your Own Pet still have four tour dates scheduled in August. Their EP, Get Damaged – which includes three banned tracks deemed too violent by their label for inclusion on their March full-length, Get Awkward – was released physically via XL on Tuesday.

Mathew Cullen, director for the production company Motion Theory, said of the video in an interview with Rolling Stone, "Essentially, it's a viral made of virals."

Bringing in more than 7 million views, Weezer's high-concept video streak has continued with the "Pork and Beans" showcase of 2008's homemade celebrities re-creating and manipulating the video posts that made them famous.

Cullen remarked that getting everyone together for the video was actually quite difficult, since many of the "celebrities" they were looking to include do not have managers or agents. "We tried to send e-mails to their MySpace pages and their YouTube accounts, and many of them don’t answer them," he recalled. "So we would target their top three or four MySpace friends. That proved to be the most successful way to reach out the people that we wanted most."

Like the song itself, the positive message and forward way of thinking at the video's center appealed to the YouTubers involved: "It's an anthem for being yourself and being happy with who you are. It was important for us that we were celebrating what made each one of these people special and it wasn’t in any way about making fun of who they were," Cullen pointed out. The video has a redeeming aspect for many of its stars, including Miss Teen South Carolina who carries a light saber on stage and gets the chance to put the questions she’s asked into a blender. Famed Britney Spears fan Chris Cocker even shares a hug with Rivers Cuomo.

"We brought a bunch of YouTube celebrities into L.A. and shot a video with them, and it was really insane and surreal," Weezer bassist Scott Shriner told Buzznet in mid-May, before the clip was unveiled. "I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not a huge YouTube guy, but even to someone who's not that interested in YouTube, it's still a really interesting video. It's gonna be a trip."

Other "stars" of the video include Kevin Federline, Tay Zonday, the dramatic chipmunk and Afro Ninja. Not all the YouTubers Cullen went after were available for the video, however. "We wanted to get Techno Viking. We were big fans of it, but I couldn't find him. The other guy we wanted was Ghyslain Raza, the 'Star Wars' kid, but he'd been a victim of cyber-bullying over the years," he said.

And in the way of YouTube, "response" videos have already begun surfacing with different variations on "Pork and Beans." "Somebody decided to take the video and make a mash-up with an 80-piece orchestra doing 'Pork and Beans,' so I think that's the ultimate compliment: when you inspire someone to make something else."

In the increasingly difficult music industry, Weezer, too, may have figured out a "way to reach the top of the charts." The documentary – which takes place in an overcrowded, understaffed correction facility that houses 1,500 of Alabama's most dangerous criminals – chronicles the lives of inmates who are dramatically changed by the influence of the ancient meditation program.

Behind high-security towers and a double row of barbed and electrical-wire fences, 36 inmates from the Donaldson Correctional Facility were given the opportunity to partake in an emotionally and physically demanding course of silent meditation for 10 days. During these 10 days, the prisoners followed a strict daily routine consisting only of eating, sleeping and meditating. What resulted was a seemingly drastic change in their attitudes and outlook on life.

In interviews conducted before the meditation course, the inmates expressed a great sense of fear and apprehension as they anticipated what they would find once they left with nowhere to turn to but inside. After the course, however, the inmates show a drastic change in attitude and discuss the pain and self-discovery they experienced while mediating. To challenge skeptics of the program, who believe the prisoners could just be putting on an act for the parole board, the film also includes follow-up interviews with family members of the inmates, prison staff and the prisoners themselves.

Like many of the inmates, Cuomo's life was changed by Vipassana. "What struck me was how similar my experience is in the meditation course to how it is for these criminals serving life sentences," Cuomo explained, according to RollingStone.com. The singer reportedly related to a statement from the movie, in which a convicted murderer admits, "I've been on death row for eight years, and this 10-day course was harder."

Though not an inmate himself, it is fairly easy to see why he relates to those benefiting from the vigorous meditation program. His behavior over the years has been hardly predictable or balanced: leaving rock stardom to attend classes at Harvard University from 1995-1997 after the release of Weezer's [1996 album] Pinkerton, then going back under his shell when it proved to be less successful than [1994's] The Blue Album. During this time, the troubled artist spent his days in a Culver City apartment building under a Los Angeles freeway, with black walls and fiberglass-covered windows that he then covered with black sheets. Cut off from the world, Cuomo spent most of his time with his pet gecko.

But after becoming a devout Vipassana practitioner, Cuomo took to working on his spirituality, his education and his love life. In 2006 he graduated 10 days before getting married and finally got situated in a somewhat balanced life, in part thanks to his meditation habits. In an earlier interview with the Boston Globe, Cuomo explained, "I [had been] in creative trouble. I was becoming less sensitive and my songs were getting worse. I had these self-destructive mental patterns, and as soon as I started meditating I felt those loosening up. I dove in really quickly."

So maybe the belief that the Vipassana practices are having lasting effects on the prisoners of Donaldson Correctional Facility isn't so far fetched after all. "The Dhamma Brothers," financed in part by Cuomo, was released May 9 at Laemmie's Sunset 5 Theatre in Los Angeles.

Weezer released their sixth record, The Red Album, on June 3 and have planned a short June run, dubbed the Hootenanny Tour, in which the band will be inviting 100-200 Weezer fans to jump onstage each night to play any instrument of their choice.

As Fall Out Boy fans are well aware, Wentz's new show, "F'N MTV," debuts Friday at 8 p.m. The show will showcase unreleased videos, performances from featured bands and more to coax the audience to get involved. The first episode will also include a performance from Panic at the Disco,

"We had an idea for a show to be on a music network that would play only videos ... and had the idea to be on MTV, as the name is 'Music Television,' " Wentz wryly told AP.

According to Wentz, "[It] is going to probably blow everyone's mind. I can't even explain what people should expect." Other artists slated for video premieres on "F’'N MTV" include blink-182, The Cure, The Replacements and Michael Jackson. Judging from Wentz's description, we can expect to see some footage of well-known artists in very rare form, indeed: Think Snoop and Willie Nelson collaborating on a country music video, for one.

To those skeptical of a good music show airing on MTV, Wentz challenged, "I feel like a lot of times people complain because sandpaper is too rough, you know? I don't think that this show is going to revolutionize the world. It's not going to change music. It doesn't show that Pete Wentz is the hero of the MTV generation or anything like that. All I wanted to see is some more videos get played on MTV." With a 52-minute slot on Friday evenings and limited commercial breaks, it seems like Wentz might just get his wish.

As to whether or not he sees himself venturing further into television and movies, Wentz explained, "I think that I'm pretty content with what I do. The show happened nearly a year after The White Stripes canceled their 2007 fall tour after the drummer had reportedly been suffering from "acute anxiety" that left her unable to travel at the time.

After the Raconteurs' encore break on Sunday night, Meg – Jack's ex-wife – entered the stage accompanied only by him, to sit at Raconteurs drummer Patrick Keeler's kit and "tap on some of the drums," according to Billboard. After an uneventful "performance" by the drummer, Jack White shouted to the anxious crowd – who thought they would be getting a song from The White Stripes – "Hey everybody, this is Meg White!"

To the crowd's dismay, Meg reportedly only waved while exiting the stage and didn't stay for the encore performance. Although the two didn't perform, the sight of Meg White may give fans hope for the future. Jack White has also commented that he and his former wife are already at work on their seventh album.

The Raconteurs have been touring since April 20 in support of their new album, Consolers of the Lonely, and will wrap up the tour this weekend at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee.

Williams recently spoke out about the incident on the band's LiveJournal account: "So ... I've decided to do this. It was only half thought out, but I'm doin' it anyways," Williams stated. "I saw that post someone made about the 'handwritten book' on eBay. Yes, it's mine. Hahah. I don't remember being a sad child, but I definitely loved horror films at a really young age. I guess that was reflected in this particular assignment. Anyway, that's not exactly what I'm posting about. I'm actually posting about the seller of this item. It happens to be my ex-stepfather. Who is ... well ... insane, hence the reason he is my EX-stepfather."

In the heated post, titled "eBay revenge," Williams toyed with the idea of releasing her ex-stepfather's name, workplace and phone number in order to "show him what it feels like when your personal life is out there for everyone to put their hands on." Fortunately for him, she decided against it, or so it seemed. Though she asked fans not to bid on the item, because she was going to buy it herself, Williams left an indiscrete postscript that included a phone number between the words, "coughgivehimhellcough." As of press time, the notebook – made of stapled construction paper with a young child's handwriting – had been removed from eBay and the provided phone number was no longer working.

This isn't the first – and certainly won't be the last – personal confrontation brought into the public for Paramore. Earlier this year, after canceling a week of European tour dates in February, the band blogged themselves into another sticky situation, with false rumors surfacing of Paramore breaking up and Williams' pregnancy being a cause for the cancellation.

In a previous interview with MTV News, Williams said, "We've been posting blogs to our LiveJournal and talking to our fans that way for years now, and it's always been something that's been really fun for us. But now it's crazy, because I'll post something, and it's all over the place. It's really funny how things have escalated, and how people make a huge deal out of the tiniest things. We were coming home, we canceled a week of shows, and then the next thing you know, I'm pregnant."

Of course, Paramore aren't breaking up, and Williams is far from pregnant. Having recently finished their co-headlining tour with Jimmy Eat World in early May, Paramore will kick off their own European tour today with a show in Brussels. The band will tour North America later this summer.

But because of its cultural importance, the landmark LP has been added by the Library of Congress to the National Recording Registry. This merit means that Thriller is recognized as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" to American music history.

Thriller, released in 1982, remains the highest-selling album by a male pop artist — it has gone 27 times platinum in the United States and is the bestselling album worldwide, with more than 108 million copies sold. The 25th anniversary reissue of Thriller, cleverly titled Thriller 25, was released this year and includes seven bonus tracks as well as a DVD with three music videos and a live performance. In "classic" form, Thriller 25 sold 1.8 million copies in just 12 weeks.

Thriller isn't the only item making its way into the National Recording Registry. Also making the cut along is former President Harry S. Truman's legendary address to the Democratic National Convention in 1948; a collection of more than 1,000 radio broadcast recordings by former President Ronald Reagan between 1976-'79; the Sounds of Earth disc prepared for the Voyager in 1977 while it traveled through space; Joni Mitchell's For the Roses; the first trans-Atlantic broadcast from March 4, 1925; Tracks of My Tears, by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, considered by some as the most poetic, most enduring love songs in R&B history; and the original cast recording of "My Fair Lady," among other items.

It was as if the words just came to him in the moment and were meant solely for those in the audience to absorb.

Forgive me for sounding a bit sappy, but this show was one of the most engaging performances I've witnessed in a very long time.

We waited patiently while Elbow took their places onstage amid the crooning backup vocals that open their new album, April's The Seldom Seen Kid. Elbow were equally patient to begin "Starlings," fiddling with instruments and addressing the crowd until finally the time had come. Out of nowhere, Garvey and guitarist Mark Potter raised their trumpets to produce the one long, startling note that launches the album opener. And so began the night.

Continuing the pace of Seldom, Elbow followed with the album's second track, "The Bones of You," a heavy, chilling tune that must have traveled through the nerves of everyone listening. After only two songs, it became clear that this band has redefined the word "cool" – dressed liked they had come straight from shooting a Gap ad, the Elbow lads graced the stage with wise confidence. They didn't rely on gimmicks and stage lighting to entertain, but rather solid, reflective music and witty intermissions that explained their contemplative (sometimes cryptic) lyrics. And thanks to earlier instruction from Garvey, the audience was even able to bring the band back onstage for a lengthy encore.

After the nostalgic "Station Approach" from 2005's Leaders of the Free World, Garvey kindly asked the audience to pass forward a CD someone in the back had been waving in his direction all night. And as if that wasn't moving enough, he then asked everyone to look into the video camera and sing happy birthday to drummer Richard Jupp's son, who was having a birthday that night far from his father. You couldn't help but feel like the members of Elbow had become your best friends over the course of a couple of hours.

It was clear, after a glistening performance of "Grace Under Pressure," that Elbow wanted to stay with the audience as much as the audience wanted to hear more from them. So, of course, they made room for one more tune. Closer "Scattered Black and Whites," from their 2001 debut, Asleep in the Back, had the entire audience mesmerized, as if the words were meant only for them and only in that moment. One audience member was so moved by the connection Garvey was translating to the audience that he jumped onstage calmly just to give him a hug and sway to the music a bit before being shooed off by security.
